HSA (Home and School Association)

The Sousa HSA (Home and School Association), a non-profit organization, is an alliance of parents, educators, and administrators who seek to promote the best educational opportunities for the children in our homes, schools and communities. Through the use of its annual dues and fundraising, the HSA enhances the educational facilities and opportunities for the students of Sousa Elementary School by funding programs and equipment that are not otherwise provided for in the school budget. Many activities in our school are organized and staffed by HSA volunteers so any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

The HSA keeps parents aware of what’s happening at school via emails, e-newsletters, Remind text messages, Twitter and the HSA’s website. The website can be found at https://www.sousahsa.org/.

Committees
The HSA’s website also provides information about the wide variety of committees at Sousa. Traditionally, sign-up forms are distributed to Sousa parents and parents of incoming kindergarteners in the spring and are collected in June. If you are new to Sousa at another time of the year and want to get involved, you can always contact the HSA co-presidents for more information.

Class Liaisons
Prior to the start of each school year, two parents are chosen from each class to serve as class liaisons. These parents are the teacher’s main contact when it comes to disseminating information, coordinating activities and discussing class-related issues. Parents who are interested in volunteering for this position should fill out and return a sign-up form the preceding school year.

Executive Board
The Sousa HSA Executive Board is composed of elected parent volunteers, teacher representatives and the principal. For parents, each position is a two-year term.

Contact Information
Sousa Directory
The HSA uses MySchoolAnywhere, which is a directory that is available online and as an app on your phone, to provide contact information for Sousa staff and families. If parents would like to be included in the directory, they must give the HSA their email addresses to be enrolled. MySchoolAnywhere will send two separate emails. One will confirm the email address given, and the other will contain login instructions to access the site.   From there, parents can add/edit their own contact information. Once a family has been enrolled in the directory, the family information will be automatically included in the following year’s online directory. Parents also have the option of enrolling in the directory in order to access its benefits but opt to not have their contact information displayed.

Class Rosters
At the beginning of each school year, parents are asked if they wish to have their child’s address, phone number and parents’ email addresses included in the roster that is distributed to all parents of children in the class. At Open School Night, class liaisons will ensure permission is given by all parents before the class list is distributed.

Please note that the contact information for class rosters is specifically meant for that class; whereas, contact information in the MySchoolAnywhere directory is accessible by the whole school.
