Dear Sousa Families,
It has been a wonderful start to the 2022- 2023 academic year! We welcomed almost 550 students this year on the first day of school with our Kindergarten and 5th grade having over 100 students each! The first day of school was filled with students arriving with big smiles, plenty of fist bumps and all the energy necessary for a truly amazing year ahead. A special thank you to our Home and School Association (HSA) for displaying a "Sousa Strong" sign at the entrance to welcome our school community.
We kicked off the new year by welcoming our parents into the building for Open House. It was a wonderful night for all and we are looking forward to enjoying many more events together in the coming months. We also celebrated our first Sousa Spirit Day by wearing red and white on September 1st. This tradition will be continued on the first Friday of every month.
Last week, students experienced their first assembly in the auditorium where we discussed the importance of being Kind, Confident and Compassionate because We are Sousa Strong! We also had our first Bus Safety Drill and our first Fire Drill of the year. All this in addition to making new friends, organizing supplies, building our community, and preparing for our very first RULER: Charter Day on Friday, September 16th.
If you have not done so already, request to follow @sousa_school on Instagram to get a glimpse into our day at Sousa. Also, check out our updated webpage. Here you will find our handbook and a new Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page to help our families navigate the school year.
Until next time,
Mrs. Sheehan, Principal
