Kelso's Choices

Kelso is the name of a frog who provides options for students regarding how to solve “small” social conflicts independently. When children have a "big problem", they should go to a trusted adult for support right away. A "big problem" is if the problem gets physical, if they have tried a strategy or 2 and it is persisting, or if something is happening that makes them feel scared, uncomfortable, or in danger.

Kelso offers nine choices to solve “small problems.” These are illustrated in the above Kelso’s Choice Wheel. If your child comes to you with a "small problem", we can encourage them to try Kelso's Choices first. If that doesn’t work, then an adult can assist. It is important that kids know who their trusted adults are within various settings.
